I have the orig one since 2013. And some of the tube connector are drying out. So I wanted to get the same vacuum due to having the bear floor attachment and extra filters already. Never had a problem with the old unit. And still works, but I can tell the new unit has better pick up and the brushes are new. If you have the bare floor attachment, this unit will work with it. Check out the pictures.

The SHARK UPRIGHT NAVIGATOR is the BEST vacuum cleaner I have ever purchased! I love the way it lets me navigate all around my furniture, I love that it lets me clean underneath my tables, and I love how POWERFUL the suction is! I thought my fully-carpeted small house was clean when the Navigator arrived, but after one use, the LARGE clear canister on this machine was FULL. The carpet was so much cleaner, and it has a setting for hard floors also. The difference in cleaning was amazing. My old vacuum was okay, but this thing is AMAZING. My allergies can feel the wonderful difference too! And the machine is easy to maneuver, even for a small woman like me. Shipping was SO FAST with Amazon Prime, the seller's price was great, and I was able to assemble and USE my new Navigator in 2 minutes. I highly recommend this vacuum to everyone! This vacuum has the strength of all the ancestors combined. It doesn’t clean the carpet .. it attempts to pull it up by the roots, especially on the stairs. I could physically feel the carpet lifting while vacuuming. The suction is unreal!

Now let’s talk about the canister. I took a picture of what this thing picked up and I was HORRIFIED. I keep my carpets pretty clean, so I genuinely do not know where all that debris was hiding. At this point, I’m convinced it vacuumed the padding underneath the carpet and possibly a layer of my dignity.

Fair warning: pushing and pulling this vacuum requires effort. You will gain arm strength. The stair attachment works best at a very specific angle and unfortunately the lift-away is bulky.

My floors are spotless, my carpet is traumatized, and I’m questioning everything I thought I knew about cleanliness.

This little vacuum is a powerhouse!! This is my first time in a long time to give a review, and first ever to embarrass myself with what came out of my carpet. 😂😂 I was using a robot vacuum and decided to use my brand new Sharp with attachments. What you see is a high-trafficked area that's @ 10' x 15' and one side of a small bedroom!!! WOW!!!! It's easy to put together, easy to clean hoses, the foot, and the filters. I'd put this little powerhouse up against a much bigger vacuum anyday. I trusted the Sharp name to give me my money's worth but I want expecting this!!

I’ve had my $300 bissell vacuum for 3 years, I love it I felt like I had the best vacuum on the market. It’s all hardwood on main floor and carpet 2nd floor. Got tired of carrying the vacuum back and forth so I looked for something new and not too expensive- and oh, my gawd. This vacuum knocks my pride & joy out of the water! The suction- the suction is POWERFUL. My carpets haven’t had that brand-new look since we got it installed. this vacuum gives you the “lines” and cleans all the way to the floorboards. It’s extremely light weight and I love how the brush stops rolling automatically if you go off the carpet to harder surfaces… my house never goes 2 days without being vacuumed so I couldn’t believe when I used this and saw how much dirt it was picking up. We usually dump the tank weekly, I had to before I was even done my first round upstairs. I forgot how much I missed those vacuum lines! Ok now the stairs: this unit has two attachments one flat square one and an extended pointy one to get every crack and crevice. It’s so easy just to put on the carpet stair attachment and zoom down it takes half the time we used to spend doing the stairs and again I cannot believe how much crap it pulled up. This shark vacuum just gave my carpets another life seeing how clean it got everything! About a year ago my pride n joy bissell started making weird noises so I took it to a vacuum shop and the owner asked me if I ever considered getting a shark vacuum and now I know why…This is my first shark device ever and I truly will only buy this brand from now on!

Ya’ll… I am a Virgo sun, Virgo moon and Capricorn rising. My entire existence revolves around being clean. That is difficult with 2 boys and a dog, however I try. I kept saying that our overpriced new Dyson wasn’t picking up dirt despite cleaning the vacuum and filter weekly. I also vacuum DAILY all surfaces of our house. The crumbs persist, but so do I.

Well, here’s the proof. I used this one time on our living room carpet and bedroom carpet. And here we are. The Dyson does not work on carpet, clearly. This thing is powerful. I lift weights 3-4x a week and I mean this in a very Will Ferrel way when I say this thing is “sucky”. I could manage it but if you aren’t weight lifting, might wanna buy some dumbbells with this order cause she will suck up all the dirt and hope you had left thinking you were a clean person.

It was extremely easy to put together and extremely easy to clean ( unlike my Dyson) I am embarrassed to even share these photos, but damn.

I have high hopes for this after first use. Hopefully it won’t break every other week like my Dyson did.

If you need a good vacuum that isn’t $900, buy this.

This vacuum sucks!! Haha! I've always heard about how great Shark vacuums are and I have always wanted one.
The amount of dirt this thing gets up is mind-blowing! I left the dirt in the cup so you can see how much dirt my rug that I thought was clean had in it.
I love the lift away feature, I can take this with me all over the house to clean curtains, walls and furniture. Love it!!

I've had this for just over a year now so this review is based on actual use not just first impressions.
-It has decent suction, no better or worse than my Dyson that took a dump without warning.
-The attachments are subpar and not easy to use. They just aren't very flexible with the weird elbow joints. It's annoying.
-I do like how it comes off the base for stairs but you run into the attachment issue here.
-It's easy to maneuver around furniture.
-I like the roller on/roller off option.
-Easy to disassemble to clean.
--- HERE'S THE KICKER!!! --- The dust cup is comically small. Sure it *LOOKS* big, and they even claim in the description "Large Dust Cup" but the USEABLE space is a joke. It you are cleaning pet fur this thing fills up in an instant and god forbid you pass that "max" line... you have to fish it out with your hands because the whole clump of dirt and hair gets stuck in the tight space. This is something I would NOT recommend to pet owners but it's a pretty decent vacuum for a PET FREE house with good suction. I personally would not buy this again.

it is a wonderful vacuum with amazing suction the clean SO much sand out of my carpet and the hepa filter works very well too, but it has a dysfunctional system to do cleaning with the extension arm because of the shape of the extension wand handle being curved you cannot hold it straight since its curved and there is downward tension being pulled away from you by the extremely short and stiff rubber flexy tube. . DO NOT BUY if you need to clean with the extension wand, but i highly recommend it for normal daily vacuuming as an upright machine.

Very impressive at first regarding suction and pulled up dust and hair my other 8 year old vacuum was missing.
Head width very narrow.
Canister design builds up large amount of debris in one area and you have to reach in and pull out or use pencil etc to reach in and break up . See image.
Seems that by now they would have a design that doesn’t have built in catch/clog areas .

Was looking for something powerful to pick up cat hair and clean my low carpet well. This thing did the trick and I would have given 4 1/2 stars if I could. What I liked: the noise level is low. The suction is incredible but it should be with a 10 amp power requirement. It gives options for bare floor or carpeting and has a "suction control" vent that you can adjust through air vents to release pressure to let you chose the power. What I didn't like is that it is heavy to maneuver especially when you set it to high suction (but what a job it did!). The vacuum itself is listed at 14 lbs so be aware. In general you can move it around corners but on high suction it's the pulling back (not pushing forward) that requires some muscle. Also there's no place to put the Pet Power Brush on the device so I'll have to put it in a drawer somewhere and hope I remember I have it when I need it.
Photos show what it picked up in a small 10x12 room (I thought was clean!) and the location of the suction control. I recommend it to anyone who needs the power but if you don't or can't use a little muscle to move it around, I say look elsewhere.

Made a weird grinding noise while using (right out of the box) and was a bit harder to push than my old Dyson. For those reasons I decided to return and get another Dyson.

This vacuum does not work for regular rug it gets stuck , the brush cannot handle and lent if rug tread for wood or tile floor it’s great.

Babbbbbbyyyyy! Best investment I’ve made in a long while. This is coming from someone who most would call OCD. We are also a shoeless home. We have been using our robot cleaner for the past year since pausing our monthly cleaning service and would accumulate between 4 bedrooms with carpet at most a handful of lint/particles.

This collection pictured came from the master bedroom and walk-in closet alone! It almost filled the dispenser in its entirety in one take . I am mind-blown that we’ve been walking on and living in this 🫣 but am so grateful to have it gone. Can’t wait to put this to use daily and hope to never see this amount accumulate again. Amazing investment!

I am so impressed with this vacuum right off the bat. I had a cordless shark vacuum that I used pretty much daily and thought the rugs were clean… WRONG. One quick use of the shark navigator and so much came out of the rug that I was so disgusted yet highly satisfied. This vacuum is magical. The only downside is that it has to be plugged in and the cord isn’t retractable which is a pain to manually wind up the cord after each use. Otherwise works great picking up dust and extremely small particles and is easy to move around! Would definitely recommend. (Photo is what I got with 5 minutes of using in what I thought was a clean rug)!

Purchased 1 year and 3 months ago. Standard household use. It picks up dog hair like a dream. However the handle literally snapped in half. It's part metal and part plastic and the plastic part (part of the 'suction' function) completely broke in two. The vacuum is now useless. Under warranty, but useless. And Shark wants me to pay $70 for the two pieces needed to get it functional. It's still cheaper than buying a new vacuum, but disappointing.

I cheaped out instead of going all-in with a Miele (>$500) or Sebo (>$1000). Guess what? You get what you pay for. Although it's decent at picking up hair and dust from new wool rugs (the purpose for which I bought it), it has been accumulating dust and hair on the *outside* of the vacuum (I assume because of static electricity?). So now it sheds random dust bunnies around the apartment after I'm done vacuuming. At least I'm not out too much money, but I am still disappointed. It could be user error, but I've been emptying the dust container as usual and it's definitely picking up dirt; just not where it's supposed to....

Before buying this Shark NV356E V5 Professional I read the reviews on it. I was pretty much convinced after one reviewer said that she had vacuumed her carpet with the other unit (some other brand I think ) she had and after going over it again with her new Shark, she was amazed at how much MORE the Shark picked up. So, I wanted to do the same experiment. I vacuumed our small bedroom, the hallway runner carpets, two thick “Muddy Mat” (for dog paws) area rugs by the slider, runner near front door, living room rug and our large den carpet with my Kenmore Pop-up canister vacuum very slowly and thoroughly with a new dust bag in it. When done, the bag was full. Then I vacuumed the bedroom, hallway, runner near front door and living room rug. However, even with the suction collar completely open, the Shark wouldn’t even move across the “Muddy Mats” as they are very thick. (more about this later.)
The dust cup on the Shark was already about 1/3 full (!) with even MORE dog hair, dirt and dust before I even got to the den! So I moved on to the den-one carpeted step down into the den. The Shark was easy to lift up down to the den and to lift up onto that step. I only did half of the den carpet and the dust cup was full - more hair and dirt and dust! I had to empty it to finish the rest of the den. It was almost half full again! To re-vacuum those two Muddy Mats, my husband suggested using the pet hair attachment and it worked! Brought up a good amount of hair, etc. Problem solved! I like the way I can switch to bare floor setting without having to turn it off, find the floor attachment and then put it on a wand. I really thought the Kenmore had great suction but this Shark puts that thing to shame! I just never liked how cumbersome the Kenmore is to pull the canister around; really hate how the wand with the motorized swivel head always falls over when I try to stand it up by itself, for example , when finding the floor attachment. Then I had to remove the motorized swivel head to put any attachments onto the wand. My carpets are 9 years old and now after using the Shark on them, they not only look like they’re been shampooed, they look new! The air coming out of the Hepa filter actually smells sweet! Also, I am 80 years old (and not decrepit nor feeble—still kind of youthful, people tell me) and this Shark is not too heavy nor awkward to use for me. I am so stinkin’ glad I decided to order this GREAT and so affordable Shark. (I got the Black Friday price 😄.) Photo is of the living room rug after using the Shark. So, yes, obviously I highly recommend this vacuum cleaner.

I've been using the Shark brand for some years and it's never disappointed but I was a little bummed when I received this particular model only because it came with just the these 2 little attachments (this is why we read THE WHOLE description 🤣). Otherwise, I am more than happy about how much it "sucks"😁✌🏼🤙🏼

This vacuum cleaner has a lot of power and a lot of range, it has two different speeds and three types of ways of vacuuming, it serves for floors, carpets, windows, etc.

This is a good vacuum for the price. It is light and does a good job cleaning. I have owned a Shark Stratos and was very impressed with it, so I decided to try this cheaper model. For the most part, I have not been disappointed. It works well and gets my carpets very clean. It's also not too noisy or large. The liftaway feature is probably my favorite feature. It makes it very easy to clean the stairs.

My biggest complaint about it is the quality of the materials. Compared to the Stratos, this vacuum feels a lot more "plasticky". If feels lighter and more fragile. Within a few months of using it, the cap for the dust filter in the front of mine started periodically falling off while I was vacuuming. It's happened so often that I used some duct tape to keep it in place. I never had any issues like that with my Stratos.

I am a big fan of Shark vacuums, and I will keep using this one. I would gladly buy any Shark vacuum over another brand any day. Buuuuut..... it does seem like a few corners may have been cut in order to keep the price point down on this one. I will probably spend a little more next time to get one of the more expensive models instead.

I have a 5-8 year old Shark Navigator I was trying to replace, this new one has more suction power for sure & a bigger waste bin but overall it's just worse? It's heavier, doesn't turn as well, doesn't have lights, has a shorter cord & isn't balanced well, it wants to naturally fall backwards. I feel like that's alot of downgrades for a much newer version so I returned it.

It picks up great It's not very noisy it was easy to put together on my regular wall to wall carpeting at maneuvers great unfortunately I have a area rug on top of my carpet in the living room and it was extremely hard to push on that I cannot figure out why but it really gave my arm a workout otherwise I would have given it five stars

Super easy to assemble. Tried it out immediately and could hardly push it because the suction was so strong. Once I read the directions, there is a collar near the handle that you need to turn to reduce suction strength. Even with that turned all the way open it did help, but still very strong suction and difficult for an elderly person to push. I feel if you have medium piled thick Carpet you’ll have some difficulty pushing the vacuum with the brush turned on. With the brush off and the collar adjusted to full suction. It works very good on the wooden floors. The results in the canister proves it does it job very well, but I’m not sure I have the strength to push it with the brush on and collar adjusted to less suction.

The vacuum itself is outstanding!
The pet hair power brush worked at first but now the brush doesn’t hardly turn. I used it to vacuum out my dog crate!
The hose handle is very heavy and awkward. The bendable part of the hose is very short when vacuuming ceiling fan blades, panel doors, baseboards etc.
You cannot vacuum heavy area rugs. There is no suction adjustments like on the older model Shark Navigator.
My whole house is wood floors and it vacuums perfectly for that.

Warning, it's a long read, but I wanted to go into deep detail.

To start, I have been a Rainbow vacuum user for so long. I love them and felt they worked amazingly.

Next, I have 3 dogs & a cat. One is a thick coat lab and the cat sheds so much as well.

Another next, I have horrible allergies and wanted something that would help keep them calm as well. I also have a lung disease and need something that will pick up as much junk as possible to keep them clear.

Now, on to the Shark vacuum.
I got tired of lugging around the Rainbow and wanted to look into a vacuum that my daughter could use and help out.
I found this Shark vacuum and 6 others that grabbed my attention.
I dug deep. I read through every review, good, bad, indifferent.
I wanted a vacuum that was going to truly pick up pet hair/dander, as well as pick up sand & dirt.
I was drawn to this specific vacuum saying pet & allergen vacuum and loved that so many of the reviews said it had amazing suction power.
I thought there's no way ut can be as amazing as most were raving about.
After 2 months of digging and narrowing down vacuums, I was left with this one. I finally decided to purchase it and see what all the fuss was about.
It came in today and I immediately out it together to the it out.
I had just vacuumed with my Rainbow vacuum 2 days before, so I didn't expect much.
Oh....my....gosh...! I am blown away! Seriously, no joke!
The picture you see attached was after 2 passes over a 2' x 2' area in my living room. Not kidding...pushed it forward, pulled it back. Did this one other time. I was completely astonished! There is no way my carpet is that dirty after using my Rainbow 2 days before! I swore by that vacuum and how great of a job it did, so I thought.
This vacuum pulled out dirt, sand, pet fur from 3 families ago, it seems lol.
I immediately took this picture and dumped the resivoir since it was full.
I was excited to finish the rest of my living room and then move on to the rest of the house.
It took me 30 minutes to vacuum my living room because I had to keep stopping to empty the reservoir. I am grossed out that it was that dirty, but so grateful that I purchased this Shark vacuum.

The vacuum is super easy to put together. It's not heavy and is easy to use.
I love that it has the large vacuum and the option to break it down to a hand held vacuum to get baseboards and hard to reach areas.
I also love that the power switch has 3 positions; Off, Bare floor, and carpet.
I love that there is a place on the vacuum for hose attachments.
I love that the power cable is quite long.
I love that it's compact enough to fit in my coat closet, but large enough to vacuum the living room quicker than the sport vacuum. It makes vacuuming a breeze.

The price is amazing for being a Shark vacuum.

This vacuum is so amazing that I finished vacuuming, rinsed the resivoir and filter, put it away, and immediately sat down to write this review.

Seriously give this vacuum a try!

I am convinced this is the perfect vacuum.

I'll start by saying I'm a 76 year old female. I ordered and received the Shark Navigator NV369 the same day. The next morning I had it assembled with ease and ran it through its paces. The suction is strong and, that it can be adjusted is a good feature. Despite adjusting I have one carpet where the suction is still too strong to use this vacuum. I'll continue to use the Levot cordless stick that I've had for a while. It takes some effort to use on some of my other rugs, but it can be done. It does a great job on the luxury vinyl flooring that I have throughout my house. I didn't have a problem separating the wand or the lift-away pod so I can reach high or areas that are harder to get to. I appreciate that both the top and bottom of the bin can be opened for easier cleaning of the bin following vacuuming. My Levot has a light. I miss that this vacuum doesn't. Its had to beat cordless but, in this case, I wasnt ready to pay $299 for a cordless Shark. This one, before tax, ran $159. As I mentioned, I've had the Levot for a while, it was also purchased from Amazon. I recomend both of these vacuums as they each meet slightly different needs. The Hepa filters on both are a healthier option for cleaning one's home.

We have a lot of hair. Dogs, people. The only issue I have to this high performance machine. No way to take the brush off to get the hair out of it. Every every time we vacuum we have to clean it out. It takes a good 45 minutes to pull and to get all of it out. Needs to be revisited by manufacture to give easy access and removal for easy cleaning. Other than that good machine

this is the only vacuum i use. it's my 3rd one(not because they kept breaking...others, got lost in a move,&gave to my son when he moved) i have cats&used to have a long hair dog. so have always needed a GOOD SUCTION VACUUM! after researching&finding this one yrs ago...i don't look for any others! i have multiple dfrnt types of rugs(low pile, shag, high pile, etc) throughout my house, with tile&hardwood floors. so i needed something that works for... EVERYTHING. this does that. my only tip is, make sure you keep the sponge filter clean(vacuum suck it after every use, & wash with liquid dish soap&allow to fully dry, once a month) &continuously check the brush head of hair&stuff wrapped around it. the cleaner that stays, the better it brushes! (&keeps the bristles from wearing down/strong) So a clean filter keeps the suction at 100%,&a clean brush, well... self explanatory. my ONLY reason for taking a star off,is....i did an initial review&it was declined. i was not rude. &evn explained that i understood the possible mistake&would update the review after.. correction. so concerns me now about... reviews accepted/ declined. i was shipped a used vacuum. dirt was still in it&cord tangled up. just all...thrown in the box. i assumed it was a return or something that just got.. misplaced with my order. &after asking for a reorder/replacement, a few days later i received a new one in the original box. i only did the review honestly so they could see the pictures&know i was being completely truthful. but i don't like knowing that my review was rejected. it makes me question the process of reviews now. &that makes online shopping, just that much harder. so we'll see what happens with this review. eitherway, highly recommend this vacuum.

This vacuum is less than 6 months old and it’s already squeaking and not working correctly. I got a refurbished one so it doesn’t have a warranty. I definitely would never do that again. I’m stuck with this vacuum. Do yourself a favor and buy something better.

Well, the brush on bottom collects so much of my dogs and cats hair that I have to cut away from brush. It's a great vacuum except for that. So if you don't want that build up opt for a different vacuum.

In comparison to the two Clean view Bisslles I had. They each only had a life span of 1 year. This shark has a lot of powerful suction it’s super impressive. It works really well. It’s very easy to assemble everything clicks into place. You can easily switch from bare floor to carpet at the click of a button. I also like that the canister and hose can lift off together which makes for easy vacuuming of the stairs, bed , curtains, furniture. It came with a crevice tool and an upholstery tool. The only reasons I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because the base of it is not as wide as the Bisslle which means it covers less floor so it takes longer to vacuum, the canister is smaller than what it looks like in The picture, so it fills up fast especially if you haven’t t vacuumed in 2 weeks or more with a cat or dog. The cord doesn’t seem as long as the Bisslle and there’s no little brushes on the side to get things out the corner. Besides all that this works well so far.

I love this vacuum but I bought it about a year ago and the hose is broken in multiple places and hardly works now. So if you do get it, get a warranty!!

Just received. Works as it should. Has a great suction, seems powerful. Easy to set up. I took off a star for quality. The plastic is much cheaper than older models. It is supper light weight, which is either a pro or con depending on your needs. My only concern, due to the poor quality plastic is how durable this vacuum will be over time with daily use.

Very easy to assemble. On the top of the lid it gives you a quick start guide of how to put it together. I love that it has suction control, I can switch it from bare floor to brushroll, and the swivel steering. Some people find it hard to push but if you adjust the suction you can push it with ease. When using the hose, it does not reach very far and will easily tip the vacuum due to it being so light weight. But because it is so light weight it's easy to pick up to be able to extend your hose if you don't want to detach the pod. I have 6 kids and two pugs that she's like crazy and it does amazing picking everything up so I would rate the cleaning power a 4 out of 5. I wish it led lights but I knew it didn't have this feature before purchasing. Also, the width of the vacuum is much smaller compared to ny Hart and Dyson vacuum I previously owned.

I spent way too much time scouring the Internet, trying to decide which vacuum to get after reading so many reviews. We decided to go with this one for a few reasons.
PROS
- It was a better price than a lot of the other ones on the market. We couldn’t justify spending almost $300 on the vacuum that we weren’t sure would work super well. This one is definitely the sweet spot.
- It does have a cord, which we prefer because we tend to vacuum a lot and use it for dusting and cleaning off the furniture.
- it has pretty good suction.
- it’s really easy to clean the debris tank.
- It’s really easy to remove the wands during use.

CONS
- It doesn’t feel like a super sturdy vacuum, and I don’t know if that’s because I’m used to using really old or industrial vacuums, but it hasn’t broken or anything so It could just be my opinion.
- It does not vacuum my rugs. In the vacuums defense, though, our previous vacuum really had problems with these rugs too. These rugs are extremely thin and have like a suede or microfiber feel to them. We tried using both the carpet and hardwood settings to Vacuum it, but it won’t move on the bear floor, setting, and the brush roll would get stuck and smell like it was burning if we tried using the carpet setting.

Overall its a good vacuum, but I am a little bit bummed that it doesn’t work on the rugs that I have all over my house. I’m thinking I’ll probably just keep the vacuum and replace the rugs. Lol.

This is our second Shark upright. We had the first one for 8 years. Like the old one, this vacuum works great at picking up our German Shepherd’s hair. He sheds 24x7x365. Two things though- the cord is much shorter than the old one. And this vacuum didn’t come with a pet power brush. I knew that when I ordered it. So we just kept the one from the old Shark vacuum, and it fits perfectly. I tried the wide upholstery tool that came with the new vacuum, and it was no match for the carpeted staircase. It didn’t pick up any dog hair. It was easy to assemble. It only took a couple of minutes. In fact, it took more time to break down the boxes for recycling.
Six days after buying this vacuum, Amazon dropped the price by an additional $20. When I bought it, the vacuum was already reduced by $20. Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t do price adjustments. ☹️

I bought this vacuum almost 2 years ago because I had a shark upright before and it was fabulous. Lasted many years and though many pets and kids. So when it was time to get a new one of course I stuck with shark. The suction is great and it’s overall worked really well. However I noticed the latches on this one were much cheaper and flimsier looking than the previous canister but didn’t think too much of it until one of them broke and came off and now the only thing that holds the canister closed is the suction when it’s on. I read here among the reviews that someone had a great experience with customer service so u just called them and did the video call with them and unfortunately I was not offered a replacement latch or canister. She said that was a wear and tear part and if I wanted one it would be $60. I will not be buying Shark again.

I’m so glad we bought this vacuum. I read all the negative reviews about how impossible it is to push this vacuum bc the suction is so strong. It is! Apparently those users didn’t know about the other settings on the vacuum that make it one of the most efficiently functional machines I own. It has a bare floor setting separate from the roller on setting for carpet and if you have high pile carpet, it has a suction release. Those two combined make the vacuum simple to push. It’s pretty lightweight & I’m coming from using the cordless Dyson V7. Other negative reviews complain about emptying the dirt bin, it does require two hands but honestly seems to clean so well, I’m happy to dump it! You can even detach the roller brush piece and attach it to the hose & pipe for reaching under the bed or just detach the handle to quickly get stairs or behind tight close spaces (toilet, furniture). It seems very durable with quality materials. Although I keep knocking off the two little attachments. I think we paid around $150 on a bit of a sale and it’s WELL WORTH IT! I sped up/slowed my video at times so it’s not too long but the sound effects just prove how great it’s working.

Does this have too much suction? The picture shows what this thing pulled out of my carpet after I vacuumed it with my old Hoover Powerdrive and after the carpet had just been cleaned with my Rug Doctor. Amazing suction.

Cons: I think it takes too much effort to push back and forth, I am older so I wonder how much longer I will be able to vacuum my own place. It is quite the work out. It does have a suction valve to adjust the power of the suction so I will tame it down for my next use.

The cord is too short! Why couldn't they add at least five, if not eight more feet to the cord.

I can't speak to how the tools work as I just received it.

In terms of suction, this thing is in n par if not better than any Dyson Upright. The price is good. It moves decently, but not as nice as the Dyson Ball. If you had a Dyson, this is the first of many times you will constantly be thinking about how the Dyson was better. Here are my complaints:

In the picture above you'll see where the cord wraps around the holds when not in use. If you look close you'll see the clearance at the bottom is minimal. It's impossible to coil or uncoil the power cable through without manually pushing it through this gap. For a tall person this is back breaking tedious, but generally just poor design

Secondly the vacuum has an aversion to standing on its own. You leave it for a little while and it'll just top over.

Next, there's no place for the two adapters that come with it. You can see I have one adapter wedged into the handle of the waste holder. Be ready to spend days searching for whichever piece you feel is less important.

Speaking of waste holder. It's buckled in with two latches on each side. If you're used to the conveniences of emptying this like on a Dyson, this will be super annoying.

Last but not least, the "convenient" handheld carry mode is purely the removal of the brush head at the bottom. While I guess it's better than nothing, it's still too heavy and very unwieldy. I almost never use this mode cause it's just not very user friendly.

Overall it's not a terrible vacuum by any means, but if you had a Dyson and you just wanted something similar but cheaper, You're going to be disappointed .

I’ve had the blue Navigator for several years and loved it but wanted a second for my upstairs. When I put “Shark Navigator” into the search area it of course came up. Just to be different, I ordered the white one. BUT… Be aware it’s much heavier, and its suction is so strong I cannot run over my Ruggables which I’ve always been able to do in the past. It also has “Professional” on the front which explains I guess how much stronger it is. It sucks very well, that’s not my issue, but I wanted the exact same thing as my current one and this is NOT the same. Maybe I should have read a little closer, so that’s on me. I’m just writing this review so no one else is mistaken they are the same. Being older I really needed the lighter machine. I’m not going to be able to utilize this new one as I had hoped.

So my home is 2k sqft and this pic is from my first use. I got tired of buying $60 vacuums only to replace them in a year. So, I splurged a little and dished out the dough for this bad boy hoping it will work better & last longer. I placed my order at 9 this morning and received it by 6 this evening. I've only had it for an hour and half and when I say this was easy to assemble, I mean no tools and few clicks easy. I have a husky who sheds like crazy and so I usually vacuum everyday to keep up but my old vacuum wasn't working well on carpets. This is a little hard to pull backward in carpet but opening the airway helps a lot and man is this vacuum powerful! I love how easy it adjusts from one floor type to the other too. No to mention it's not heavy at all. Very pleased. If it were easier to pull back on carpet and the attachments didn't fall off due to the extreme suction, I'd give it a 5 star. Those are honestly the only 2 issues and they are minor. Wish they made the attachments click like the other pieces then they would remain in place & that heavy duty suction would still be just amazing with attachments.

My previous vacuum bit the dust recently so I purchased this model based on good consumer ratings from a variety of sources.

There are many plusses for this vacuum. It has exceptional suction. It isn't that heavy and maneuvers relatively easily. The dust collection bin is rather large and can be emptied easily. The filtering system is good with 3 total filters, including the HEPA exhaust filter. The cord length is very generous at 24 feet.

In spite of the plusses I find quite a few minuses. I do not like that the cord enters the machine down near the bottom. The cord is always in the way unless I constantly hold it with my other hand. I do not like the positioning of the on/off switch. It should be conveniently located on the handle but it is not. It's on the side of the pod which requires you to bend down to turn it on or off. I do not like that I cannot vacuum under furniture or beds because the pod is so large that it prevents the vacuum from going under furniture. And I know that might sound ridiculous but the suction is so strong that I cannot even vacuum my 8x10' area rugs because the vacuum sucks the rug up making it very difficult to move the vacuum and it makes the motor seemingly struggle. This absolutely cannot be sued on small area rugs. There is only one speed for the motor although you can choose to operate the vacuum without the brush spinning.

So for me this is a return. If you have nailed down rugs or lots of concrete floors, this might be a good choice. The price is very reasonable. But for my house this does't cut it for the reasons I've cited.

I vacuum daily. I have LVP and high pile carpet plus throw rugs. I’ve got 3 dogs, an Aussie who sheds daily, and kids. I have an iRobot (a joke barely picks up) 2 dysons (rollerball and cordless) that I felt that were not working as good as they should. I have spent so much time and money on vacuums as I can’t stand dog hair. Let me just say, I did a lot of research and decided on this vacuum based on Forbes best vacuum for pet hair list of 2024. Convinced shark is made for pet hair and DAILY use.

REASON FOR 4 STARS: The only issue I’m having is that it gets stuck on my area rug in my family room. That rug is a ruggable that is washable so is fairly thin. I have taken to using the hand tool for that part, but even that works so good.

So glad I got this!

So I immediately registered my shark on the shark website as the box suggests and I am glad I did! The suction on this vacuum is so intense that I was nervous it was defective because I could barely move it on my most prized area rug. I’m a strong lady. I work with power tools around my home, I do hair and blow dry peoples hair every day, I’m constantly having my arms out in front of me, and I have two German shepherd mixes that are 70 and 85 pounds who are very leash reactive. It shouldn’t be that difficult to push on the proper setting. Queue customer support call.
When I called shark customer service, I was able to speak directly to a person! They sent me a link for a video call so they could see what was going on and kindly troubleshot the issue with me. There is a suction release valve up by the handle!! She had me turn it all the way to the lowest suction setting and I was able to use it on my thickest rug and honestly it worked even better to suck up the dog hair! And it worked beautifully on my thinner area rugs. That being said, it would not work well on any rugs even thicker than my NuLoom beauty.
My first vacuum I purchased was a Shark. It lasted 8 years with 1-2 German Shepherd mixes! I loved it. For some reason, I went with a bissel pet upright rewind last year and it broke three times not due to user error and once completely due to user error. I just got it back from the repair shop and it lasted one and a half uses before it stopped working for the third time of its own accord, so I am VERY hopeful and excited for this Shark.

I need to start this off by saying I paid full price for my vacuum. This is not a paid review. This is my complete unbiased opinion on some thing I paid full price for.
I was trying to choose between this vacuum and the Bissell pet pro, I believe. I had googled the top 10 best vacuums, this one was number one and the Bissell was number two. When I asked, my friend, they said to go with the Bissell, because that’s the brand that they knew. The Bissell was also around $100 less than the shark. Regardless, I had other intentions.
My shark arrived within two days. No damages to the package. It was double boxed. Opening the box, assembly was very simple to understand and easy enough anyone could handle it. I had no problem putting this vacuum together in less than five minutes. All the pieces were there. It literally just snapped together.
Did I read the instructions on the manual on? What does what? Absolutely not. When I first started the vacuum, I was unknowingly using it on the bare floor setting on carpet. It still picked up everything. I was a little shocked about how quiet it was, and how heavy it felt trying to move it. I realized that the brushes weren’t turned on, and I have to click the button all the way down… 😅
Keep in mind, I swept my carpet with a broom first. I swept up into a dust pan the bigger pieces like cat food and treats. I have three cats, by the way. The vacuum is significantly lighter when you have the brushes activated(obviously). I did one pass on the living room floor and shockingly to my surprise I filled up the entire container. The hair was separated from the dust. And there’s a light on the right side of the base of the vacuum that will turn from green to red if you have an obstruction. For me, the light did not turn red. I just wanted to make that known just in case somebody else chooses to not read the instructions as I did.
When I tell you, I’ve never had a vacuum pick up every piece of debris hair cat food whatever you name it this vacuum picked it up in one pass. No exaggeration.

Things I was concerned about:
1. The body of the vacuum is very bulky and wide. My concern with this was that I wouldn’t be able to reach close spots into corners and under furniture. The base of the vacuum swivels from the body, so this was not a problem at all.
2. Also, regarding the body, it is very front, heavy and not rear heavy. so it is awkwardly unbalanced and can tip over if you bump in to it. that’s really the only complaint that I have about it and it’s not enough that I would take a star away from this review because of the quality of the vacuum, the functions in the gadgets, and all the bells and whistles. This vacuum has it all and I love it.
3. My only other concern was that hair could get trapped in the brush and caused me issues with trying to finish, vacuuming my floor in sitting. This was also not an issue. This vacuum works like a dream and never in my life. Would I ever think that I would be so excited and giddy over a machine that I use to do chores.

One improvement that COULD be made, but isn’t a game changer; make the cord retract with a button instead of having to wrap it up by hand. Is that lazy of me to say? LOL YES. I don’t care 🤣 that’s the only thing my bissel did that this Shark does not do.

So all in all, I truly give this vacuum five stars. I show this vacuum off to my friends. I let my friends take it for a test drive. I am obsessed with it. It has changed the way I feel about having to vacuum.
If you are concerned about the price, maybe you want it but you still don’t know if it’s worth it? Can you potentially afford it? If you can, I’m telling you right now to do it. Buy the vacuum. You will not regret it. This is probably one of the best home maintenance products that I’ve ever purchased. If anything goes wrong, of course, I will update my review, but I highly doubt it. This vacuum is nothing less than impressive. it was worth it for me.

I have attached photos of what the unit looks like after vacuuming my floor… it’s gross. It picked up years of dirt that had found its forever home at the very bottom of the carpet.

I was spoiled with a Dyson. Now, nothing is as good.

The suction is alright- but can make the vacuum feel heavy when all the way up. The best thing is probably how easy it is to take apart and to use the attachments. But still, not as good as a Dyson. Very similar to my last animal ball, but everything is just a couple grades below w the shark. I didn't get another Dyson bc of Dyson's customer service, and the outrageous price point on them. Ridiculous to get any help or any replacement items with Dyson. I chose this shark due to people raving about the customer service, and how comparable it was in quality to Dyson. And suction. For the price anyway. Yes, the price is MUCH less than a Dyson. But I honestly feel the quality is as well. It's a nice vacuum, and it does a decent job. A bit wobbly though, and falls over pretty easily. Also the cord length and the hose length aren't fabulous. I feel it may not be super durable, at least for my space, but that's where the great customer service will play in, if need be. It is decently small, and easy to move around. I just don't get that super "clean" feeling after vacuuming, as I did with my Dyson.

So, if it's on clearance, and you need one quickly, great buy. But, if you are super picky about your vacuuming like I am, you may be disappointed a bit. At least if you're trying to keep up with or expecting the same results as a Dyson. It's good, but I'm not blown away.

Initial thoughts- OK I had to get over the garbage from unpacking the machine.

A little background... I live with four cats and a small breed that doesn't shed. I had previously been using the Dyson V11 stick and before saying anything more, it might not be fair comparing a stick vacuum to a corded vacuum.

My friend, giving me moral support, starts reading me the instructions. Assembly was pretty quick and painless. This clicks here that clicks there. Then she starts reading the owners manual. And it all went downhill from there! LMAO 🤣 I don't know if all vacuum instruction manuals read the same. Not these struck us as gut wrenching funny. Maybe in a listener's frame of mind not knowing what to expect- "Suction Control offers variable suction based on your needs. " SMH! What? Truth be told- it has a bigger canister than the Dyson. It picked up three times the pet hair (as I tried to demonstrate in the ONE pass of a pet hair covered rug).

I have a combination of rugs and hardwood floors. It blew my mind how much dirt it picked up. My house smelled cleaner! This is my initial reactions, mind you. Made me feel so much better looking at clean floors/rugs.

It comes with filters. I don't know if I'm such a fan. But the big squishy one is cleanable and reusable. So some solice in that fact that I didn't know.

The handy dandy pet attachment doesn't swivel. Which meant for me? Having to bend over or be several stairs below to have the attachment nossel hit the stairs.

Emptying the machine is a dirty job. Like dirtier than emptying the Dyson. Which begs my question of why such extensive measures with the filters?

I had a total blast with my friend, going around the house and testing is suction power! It was worth it just for the memories!

This review is for the Shark NV350, since I've noticed that reviews often include several different models of the item in question! Since I'm a veteran vacuum-er, and have used many different models, there are certain things I look for in these handy contraptions.
First - there was no indication when I bought this on Amazon that it was a discontinued model, created in 2010 and d/c in 2017. The owner's manual did not include specs - like how long is the cord? How long is the wand? What accessories come with? Nor did the Shark website. All it had for this model was FAQs and a way to have customer service give you a call back, it also gave no indication that this model was discontinued. I did have customer service give me a call in order find out more about it...

At any rate, I don't know how much this vacuum weighs, but it's not heavy. The cord is 25 ft. long, which is not long enough to plug in in the middle of my little 900 sg. ft. house and reach everywhere, so that's not gonna work.
The dust cup is attached via these latches (pic 3) that you have to lift on both sides in order to free the cup. Then, there is a tab at the bottom (pic 1) that you push to let out the dirt. It gets all over your hands no matter how you do this, so that's strike number 2. It does hold a fair amount, but how much is anyone's guess.
Suction - seems fairly mediocre overall, and there is no way to change the height of the brush head so you're stuck on one setting for any thickness of carpet. When the power button is selected for bare floors (no brush roll going) it's pretty easy to vacuum small throw rugs, but for picking up dirt and debris on bare floors it does not shine. Kicks things around and may or may not eventually pick it up after repeated passes. Strikes 3 and 4.
The brush head is small in terms of width, so if you have large expanses of carpet to hoover it's going to take some time. Because I have a small place this did not bother me, and it maneuvered well around furniture.
Pic 4 - the small hose attaching the brush head to the vacuum comes loose sometimes, so you'll be vacuuming away thinking your'e doing something when really you're not. Strike 5.
There is no place to put the wand on the vacuum (pic 5) - strike 6. Worst of all is the shape of the handle - you can detach this to use as a hose option, but it's stuck in the U-shape that just doesn't get near all the places you need it to and was very awkward to use in any situation. Strike 7. And there you have it. I'm returning it of course...

I don't normally write up reviews on things I buy on Amazon, unless I feel strongly about them and there is really good information to share. This item deserves the review. I purchased and consider the Shark Navigator NV356E S2 Lift-Away Pro (what's the point of all the numbers) the best bang for your buck. I would say this an expensive vacuum, but as vacuum price ranges can vary depending on what you buy, I suppose this is an affordable model.
First, I will address the benefits. Right off the bat, this model is outstanding when it comes to filtering out the dust that almost all vacuums spit back out when in use. All vacuums have filters, but this goes above and beyond. If you have health issues regarding your lungs or breathing, look no further. This vacuum is completely self contained inside and does not spit any of the dust or dirt back out (see attached photos) as almost all vacuums do. Keep in mind this vacuum was completely dust free and white when I bought it (as it should be) and by the time I was finished, you would have thought I just cleaned up after a construction build. It makes me sick to think I had that much dust on my carpets, which brings me to my next point. The suction power is outstanding as well. It will take whatever you are willing to throw its way, on wood floors as well as carpet. It comes with three attachments (wand, duster and small roller vacuum for stairs). The canister detaches and is pretty lightweight. It picked up so much dust, dirt, pet hair, etc (I have two short hair, Jack Russell Terriers that are big shedders) that I had to empty the canister several (at least 6 times) while vacuuming my entire house. I recommend checking the canister to make sure it does not get too full (user error issues), or it becomes ineffective after that. Something else to note, empty the vacuum from the bottom. It opens on the top and the bottom. The bottom is an easier way to drop all the dust and collected contents.
Here are a couple of items that I wouldn't necessarily call disappointments or cons, just something to watch for and be aware of. When reading the other reviews, I noticed a few people mention that the motor burned up quickly after purchase. Here's the thing, I could have easily done the same thing, the very first day I used it. I just happened to check the roller brush after vacuuming several rooms in my house and it was so packed with hair and string that the brush motor could have easily burned out, so I would recommend checking the roller brush often because that is something I would say is user error. The suction is so strong that it will pick up hair quickly. I just used a pair of small scissors to cut the wound up hair off, then pulled it all out. I don't think you need to take the bottom off to do that, but it depends on how wound up the hair gets on the roller. Now about that roller. It is not very wide or long at all. I wear a size 8 women's shoe and it is no longer than my shoe. The roller does not extend to the very edges of the vacuum either, so that is something to keep in mind. The roller head is short, so you will need to vacuum more to clean more area, but that also allows the vacuum to fit in between small spaces. I would recommend buying extra filters because, as you can see in my third photo, it traps a lot of dust. That thing was pristine white when I started (testament to the suction power and filtering system of this vacuum). I do believe you can wash these things out, but I wouldn't recommend doing that. Just keep a couple of extras handy. I believe the extra filters are about $6.oo-$8.00 dollars.
The one thing I would say that is going to be a problem, how to clean the vacuum canister. Get yourself a good wand duster to clean it out at the end of your vacuuming. I suppose it's not absolutely necessary to clean out all the dust afterward, but that's just something I do. I don't want all that dust, etc...sitting in the canister upon next use. One other thing that I think was odd...the vacuum is white. It is going to get dirty fast, but hey! It's a vacuum.

I'm going from a Dyson DC01 Animal to this Shark unit. The Dyson still kinda works, but something is wrong with the suction. After many years of maintenance and replacement parts for the Dyson, we felt it was time to invest in something more compact since we have a small apartment.

Shark PROS:
- Nice attachments.
- Compact.
- Good suction (so far).
- Detachable base for mobility.
- Noise level is normal.
- I like the option of being able to adjust the suction level.
- Easy to empty.

Shark CONS:
- The weight is not distributed evenly. When I'm using it, I find that my arm gets tired super fast, whereas this never happened with the Dyson, ever.
- Harder to steer than the Dyson. I think this is due to the weight distribution being unbalanced.
- Even with the suction on the lowest setting, it is still very difficult to vacuum a shag carpet rug we have. It's not OVERLY shaggy or long stranded either. Just a little longer than your typical carpeting.
- The hose that extends when you are using attachments is super short. I found that whether I had the base connected or not, the canister tipped over a lot.
- In addition to the last statement, in general, this is easily tipped over when sitting upright.
- For this "basic" model, the attachments worked for getting under the bed and couch, but still hard to navigate. The attachments do not touch completely flush with the floor in my low lying areas because the other things sticking out along the handle get in the way.
- The pet hair attachment doesn't "bend", even though it has a mini roller that spins, so it's kinda hard to get that flush with anything you're trying to vacuum.
- Appears to pick up a lot of dust, dander, fur, hair, etc. However, I do feel like our Dyson canister got a little fuller. I have no way of measuring this to be certain. Just what it looks like to me.
- It's easy to empty, but I do wish the release button was on top of the canister like my old Dyson instead of the base.

Overall opinion: 3/5

*For a fraction of the price of a Dyson, this is decent. I feel like we got our monies worth and it performs as expected. It's definitely not as nice and comfortable as the Dyson though. I think I would appreciate the higher-end Sharks. We felt like a minimal investment for a decent unit was acceptable since we live in a such a small space. In the future, we would revisit other Shark models or Dysons. Would I buy this again knowing what I know now? Maybe. It might be worth the extra $50-$100 (during sales) to get the Pet Navigator Shark since it has more funtions/options/etc.

I never thought I’d be writing a review on a vacuum cleaner, but in this case after having had Dyson's for over 15 years this one earns a mention. Don’t let the price or name fool you, this easily out performs the Dysons in many ways. The Dyson(s) this is replacing is the DC07 Animal and DC27 ball vacuum. I have no regrets. My reviews are normally pretty long-winded, but I feel there's a lot to cover here for a product you hope to only buy once and service you for many years.

Build
The product is fairly well constructed; however, it is not as heavy duty as the dyson. The clips are a little flimsier, and a little smaller. The Dyson is no champion in this department either as it’s entirely plastic and I’ve replaced pieces many times over the years. This seems to be rugged enough in places that matter, and I’m pleased to find the extension tube is made of metal. Parts snap together well and easily, and it seems to require far less effort to reconfigure. Size-wise it’s closer to the ball vacuum, power-wise the larger DC07. The powered floor brush is the same width as the Dyson ball, which is to say not very wide. It does have a window at the top so you can see if something is beginning to wind around the brush before it can cause trouble. Overall the weight and size make it an excellent choice for those with petite builds or senior citizens.
I’ll say this right up front though, this is not a particularly good looking vacuum cleaner. It’s decent enough, and certainly that’s not what you buy them for. Some parts are quite handsome, but the general appearance of the tank is industrial at best, and just a bit cluttered over all.

Ergonomics
Here is a bit of a mixed bag. Ergonomically the Dyson has obviously had some top flight industrial engineers working on it, as everything is snug, streamline and compact in the ways all the parts fit together. Once you know how to reconfigure the Dyson to extend the hose, it makes sense but does have a bit of a learning curve. The Shark by contrast is simpler in many ways, if a bit fussier.

The “Lift-Away” canister allowing it to detach from the base is absolutely brilliant, and makes cleaning things like stairs, blinds, ceiling cobwebs etc. much easier. It’s far lighter than the Dyson, and easier to use. The swivel feature is similar to the ball vacuum, less sexy but works just as well. Basically, this is like having a canister and upright vacuum cleaner in one unit.

There are certain aspects that nearly appear to be tacked on, such as the cord holder. The Dysons have this on the back, and it’s quite easy to access and use. Here it’s on the side, and winding the cord really works best only going one direction as the lower clip is tucked in and a bit out of the way. The tool holder as well is not really integrated, rather a small ring with 2 friction holders for the crevice tool and brush that you put onto the upright extension during assembly. Assembly BTW is a very simple and straightforward proposition, and helps you to understand how to reconfigure. Additionally, the red 2 position on/off rocker switch looks like it came right off the parts rack of a radio shack.

The handle is well placed, well configured and comfortable to use. The main roller head is easy to tilt and the balance is quite good. Removing the tank is straightforward, and definitely one of the biggest selling points of this machine. I never liked having the hose stretch from the Dysons, which would inevitably fall over.

One thing the Shark is definitely lacking is the one hand or one finger type of ergos of the Dyson. For instance, the canister must be released via 2 flip style clips at the bottom vs the pushbutton release of the Dyson. When it comes to cleaning the Shark wins, but when it comes to those extra little amenities, you’ll have to pony up a few extra hundred dollars. However, I believe the Shark does have some advantages beyond aesthetics.

Filter
This is one of the highlights of the Shark. The Dysons have a HEPA filter which consists of a little flat filter that rests on a ribbed plate and sits at the base of the canister unit. Comparatively the Shark may seem overly complex with its multi-step filter system in 2 different locations. With the very first use it was obvious how insufficient the Dyson was in this regard. It always smelled like I was vacuuming before. With the Shark, it smells clean. There is nothing going back into the air. One look at the base filter and you know how well it’s working, it was positively filthy. Luckily these filters are made to be cleaned. The base “pre motor” filter consists of a felt filter with a foam filter on top, and then the “post motor” air return filter is a HEPA filter inside of an egg crate style frame. This is the grill you see on the front, and is easily accessed. The pre motor filter is accessed when you remove the canister. For allergy sufferers this is 5-star stuff.

Design Flaws
I have a couple of issues when comparing to the Dyson. The first being potentially important for allergy sufferers. Typically, the bag-less canisters have a little door at the bottom you open up to empty it. On the Dysons, the release for the door is at the top of the tank. You can lower the tank into a trash receptacle with one hand and pull the little release ring with your index finger, releasing the contents well away from your face and hands.

With the Shark, the release tab for the door is at the bottom of the canister opposite the hinge, which means you can’t drop the tank down into the trash can to release it, it needs to be up high enough so you can press the button. This means potential to get your hands dirty, or some of the dust and dirt to miss the can. Normally I’d go outside and do this right into the garbage can – if you do the same just make sure it’s not windy!

Additionally, the interior design of the canister has a flaw compared to the competition. Towards the top of the unit there is an inverted tube which comes close to the outside wall similar to the Dyson. However, the Shark has interior braces that trap dog fur. It can be easily dislodged by banging it, but you might not have that option. Again, this means you might be having to deal with potential contamination and sort of nullifies the excellent filtering of the unit.

Cleaning/Carpet
The first thing I noticed when I switched it on was how quiet it is! I was positive that something like this would have to be far noisier. It’s most likely that newer models of Dyson are quieter, but I’ve had experience with 4 now and they all sound about the same. A higher pitched whirring sound with the Shark can be heard opposed to the deeper Dyson Roar on the carpet. As far as real cleaning, this positively outperforms the large Dyson. It’s easier to use and maneuver, and pulled far more out of the carpet than the Dyson did. Yuck! I had no idea. We have a medium pile carpet throughout the upstairs, and 2 long haired dogs. It was obvious that this thing was digging down much deeper than the Dyson from the tracks. The motorized brush also has an indicator light on it that lights green when the brush is working, and turns red if there is a blockage or jam. Another nice feature the Shark has is a little ring you can turn to cut down on the suction if it’s becoming too hard to push.

One thing worth mentioning could bother some people. On my cut pile carpet the Shark leaves brush marks, think of a rake on sand opposed to just the flat sweep I'm used to with a Dyson. I'm not sure if this really bugs me or not, and it probably varies from carpet to carpet. I don't have any other similar type to check this on. You can certainly tell in an instant that it has been vacuumed however.

Cleaning/Hardwood Floors
The supplied Dust Away attachment with the detachable pad is a clever little extra that acts like a Swiffer on steroids. It works quite well right up to the wall, as well as sucking up all that dust and grit that manages to make its way in between gaps of the plank style hardwood floors. There is basically an open section in front of the pad to get the big stuff, and behind it is the pad which gets the dust and fine stuff that is usually missed by a vacuum even with a beater bar. You will still need to do the occasional wet mopping as things just get stuck on the floors, but for regular cleaning this is a nice option to have.

Cleaning/Pet Attachment
This is a smaller attachment with a beater bar that is powered by suction. It’s rather cleverly constructed and works well on upholstery or stairs. It’s much smaller than the Dyson Animal attachment, and far more useful. The Dyson was too large to use for pretty much anything I ever found. It’s about 4 ½ inches wide so it’s perfect for chairs and sofas. I was actually sort of surprised at how much it actually got off of the upholstery compared to just a regular brush attachment. This was a pleasant surprise inclusion; I didn’t know it would be in the package.

Wow, that’s it. I suppose one more con would be this is not a proven commodity. After a year I’ll check back in, but I would imagine Shark would have another model out by then. I can say in the last few days this little thing has really impressed me. Enough to write a review about a vacuum cleaner, which I never thought I would. But for $180, I honestly thought I was making a mistake. Instead it’s one of the smartest things I’ve done, thanks to the excellent reviews from Amazon customers.

In summary, besides the astounding power and cleaning performance of the Shark, there are 2 things I really love about it. The first is the Lift-Away design. I can’t say enough about how cool this is. It’s like having a canister vacuum you can carry around and get cobwebs, stairs etc. with without having to drag something around behind you. The second is the fantastic filter system. While I’m not a huge allergy sufferer, I had no idea how much crap was being blown back in the air with the Dyson. Combine these features with a lightweight, easy to maneuver and hard-sucking product they’ve fulfilled their promise.

While ergonomically lacking behind the Dyson, they’ve hit a good balance of features and performance, cutting corners where it would be least noticed and giving the consumer every bit from their hard earned dollar. I was dubious of Shark because of infomercials etc., but now I know they’re not throwing their money away on fancy packaging or industrial design with questionable returns.

I apologize to anybody that asked me in the comments how I still felt about this vacuum. For some reason I haven't been getting notifications regarding review comments.

TBH, our housekeeper and destroyer of all things made short work of this vacuum in about 2 years. For regular people, who do crazy things like maintain their products, (check the pathway when vacuuming up string or large metal objects etc. when they hear terrible screaming and clattering sounds), I would assume this vacuum will give 5 years easy. (I don't miss her one bit.) She would basically cause any warranty to be voided. Seriously, she destroyed a broom after 3 uses.

I've moved into a small townhome, and will be back to doing my own cleaning. I have one of the Dysons she destroyed (seen in picture) after some repairs it's limping along. However, I plan to purchase this very same vacuum again because of its clever design and ease of use.

If I had one complaint, the power brush attachment is belt driven, so if you are a ham fisted klutz who tries to use it for things besides upholstery, the belt may come off of its track. I basically hid this tool from the housekeeper after a few weeks of abuse.
